From a pearling and fishing village, Doha transformed itself during the past century to ultra-modern sky-piercing metropolis, home to international corporations and major museums such as the National Museum of Qatar designed by Jean Nouvel who took inspiration from desert rose crystals, and the I.M. Pei-designed Museum of Islamic Art, the world’s largest Islamic art collection.
Now joining these contemporary legends, Katara Cultural Village with its 100 hectares of dynamic attractions along the Arabian Gulf. Compelling highlights include the Qatar Museum Gallery, the independent Katara Art Center (KAC) dedicated to up-and-coming artists, a universe of engaging exhibits at Al Thuraya Planetarium, the classical Amphitheatre for up to 5,000 spectators as well as landmark mosques such as the Persian and Turkish tile-clad Katara Mosque designed by Turkey’s Zeynep Fadilloglu, believed to be the first female architect to specialise in mosque architecture.
